STEM Engineering Careers Event

Purpose is to create interest and excitement in a wide variety of STEM careers. To provide high school (possibly middle school also) students with an awareness of the many businesses, organizations, government agencies, programs of higher learning within CNY that employ/offer training of STEM careers.

First Robotics

Financially sponsor and provide engineers for Liverpool Highschools first robotics team. View more information.

STEM-Engineering Career Event

The MOST and PEB create interest and excitement in a wide variety of STEM careers. Project Lead the Way (RIT)

Students develop critical thinking skills through hands-on project-based learning. The program engages students on multiple levels, exposes them to subjects that they typically would not pursue, provides them with a strong foundation for achieving their academic goals in any chosen field of study and, if pursued, establishes a proven path to college and career success in STEM related industries.

RxeSEARCH

This program takes students through the discovery, development and marketing of a pharmaceutical drug. A trans disciplinary approach involves biology, chemistry, general science, math, language arts, ethics, social studies, business and marketing. Scientific machinery is used from local universities. Students tour Bristol's research facilituies and have the opportunity to present their final projects to Bristol industry professionals.

Manufacturing Careers Day

The goal of this program is to support the increased interest in jobs and careers that exist in our  regional manufacturing companies. To expose students to careers in Manufacturing, the mantle of economic leadership for years to come. View more information.

Construction Careers Day

The goal of this day is to provide high school students with an overview of the types of careers within Transportation, Building Trades, Construction, the programs/institutes of higher learning that can prepare them for these careers, and a learning opportunity for 'trying out' typical tasks of these careers through hands-on activities. Clean Water Education Research Facility (CERF)

Students work in the SUNY-ESF Global Environment course and conduct hands-on research at the CERF site in the village of Minoa. They engage in projects to simulate and demonstrate the efficacy of their findings which are all related to clean water or alternative energy. The projects the students complete have real world application and relevance and is often the impetus for them to pursue STEM careers.

Utilized is the staff and facilities at CERF, higher education professors and graduate students from SUNY ESF who all serve as support for the teachers and students. The Village of Minoa writes grants to support the project and have created a culture of collaboration with the school district. The school district provides flexible scheduling, transportation and other supports to enable the on-site research.

A "Day-in-the-Life" of a Lockheed Martin Engineer

Adhoc scheduling of half day job shadowing opportunities.  Typically 5-7 students per visit are exposed to LM engineers in their real world environment.  The students get to shadow in a 1on1, 2on1 environment for half a day.  We attempt to take into account a students interest area when determining who they shadow. It's not a "standard" visit for everyone.

Women in Engineering Day at Lockheed Martin

1 day a year 70+ young women from area schools participate and are exposed to engineering.  Supported almost 100% by the many women engineers at LM to demonstrate "this isn't just for the guys".

Engineering Day

One full day event the students visit a couple different area businesses and exposed to engineering and advanced manufacturing.  Sponsored through the Boy Scouts but open to anyone. View more information.

ESF in the High School

A school/college partnership program that enables qualified students to: Experience college-level course work while still in high school; understand the complex scientific and social perspectives behind the environmental issues that make headlines every day such as, the relationship between energy use and the environment; and learn about and explore diverse interests and career opportunities in environmental science, engineering management, policy and design - and in related areas such as law, communications, technology and medicine. Lockheed Martin engineers provide 10 weeks of 1 night a week classes in different areas of STEM topics (Robotics, programming etc).

ESF Science

Goal 1: Enrich student science learning and career exploration using inquiry, experiential, and critical thinking approaches in the urban environment; Goal 2: Strengthen partnerships between ESF, Syracuse City School District (SCSD), and community organizations; Goal 3: Improve communication and teaching skills for Science Corps participants. SWE Scholarship Program

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is dedicated to empowering women and girls to achieve their desires and aspirations to become successful engineers. To accomplish this goal, the Greater Syracuse Area Section of SWE established an annual scholarship program over 20 years ago that through its lifetime has awarded over $60,000 worth of scholarships to over 80 deserving young women in the Syracuse area.

AFCEA Erie Canal Scholarships

The AFCEA Erie Canal Chapter Scholarships are awarded to assist deserving students in furthering their educational objectives.  Their program of study must lead to a degree in electronics, electrical engineering, communications, computer engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, or an information technology allied field.
